Sweeney
Hi! My name is Sweeney, and I am just the goodest boy, can't you tell?! I just turned a year old, but I've seen and been through a lot in my short life! My siblings and I found ourselves malnourished in a rural Texas animal control with Parvo and coccidia at about 6 weeks old. These diseases are known as puppy killers, but thank goodness Samson's Sanctuary scooped us all up and that we all had the will to survive and thrive! And that is exactly what we are all doing now, thriving! My siblings and other friends all got adopted and are thriving in their furever homes and I'm still waiting. I got adopted when I was a tiny baby, and the family didnt take puppy responsibility seriously. They promised to do the training work a puppy requires no matter what, and that they would love me unconditionally but I guess they changed their mind. They returned me 3 weeks later. I don't understand what I did wrong! No one ever taught me how to be a good boy in a home, I just needed a fair chance and time to adjust. I have been in a few foster homes and even 2 board and training programs since then, and everyone who cares for me loves me so much. I have learned lots of good boy manner and I'm ready to find my family! Need proof of what a good boy I can be? I was recently asked to be a flower boy in a wedding, and was the center of attention of 120 guests I had never met! I hung out at the cocktail hour after too and made so many friends- check out the video on our IG! I also healed from 2 emergency surgeries on my elbow when I was 6 month old, and even that couldn't bring me down! I'm able to run and play on the beach and everywhere else I'm allowed to! Now I wear elbow pads to keep me safe, and I think I look really cool! I'm a 60 lb bundle of love. All I really want to do is shower you with kisses, snuggle, go on fun walks or hikes, and show you how incredibly smart I am. Puzzles, games, tricks...no problem! And I'm not trying to brag, but did I already mention I'm smart? Because I'm also potty trained and ask nicely to go outside too. AND I like to sing opera. Check me out on our IG & tiktok! @SamsonsSanctuary Even though I'm a playful boy, I also love to snuggle up with you on a comfy couch and watch a show or movie while I chew on my favorite toy. And I love to have playdates with my doggie friends! However before I made it to LA my brothers who were bigger than me used to beat me up for my food, and due to that trauma I don't like to share food and would prefer to be your only puppy love, unless you are experienced handling food guarding and feel confident you can keep me on the right track, I've worked so hard already! I've really been waiting my WHOLE LIFE for you! If you want to be my forever family, I promise I'll be your very best pal. Pretty please apply to foster or adopt me, and you'll find out how awesome I really am! *Sweeney is currently in temporary foster until the end of July but has NOWHERE to go after! Please foster or adopt!*
Cade
Heddo! My name is Cade, and I’m an American Bulldog. I am three years old. I was rescued by Samson's Sanctuary after I was dumped out of a car in Azusa, CA. I may be a big guy, but I have a big heart full of love to give. I love nothing more than to sprawl out on the couch, flip over and let my belly be exposed to the world. It's my favorite position to sleep in, and it shows how comfortable and relaxed I am in my home. Because of my past, I’m a bit cautious around men. I'm more comfortable at first if a female is around too. It's not that I don't like men, I just need time to warm up to them. Once I trust you, though, I will love you fiercely and never forget you. Oh boy, do I love adventures! I'm always up for a good hike in the great outdoors. I love to be in water! There's so much to explore and so many new smells to sniff. I love getting my nose into everything and finding out what's around the next corner. When I'm out hiking, I like to take my time and really soak it all in. I’m independent but I do love spending time together, I prefer my people to be home with me but I don’t need to be in the same room with you always. I will rest my big head on your lap occasionally and I will sit in your lap for butt scratches. I prefer to be pet on my back until I trust you and then you can touch my head. I get along great with other dogs my size and smaller as long as they are friendly, but I do like to chase cats, so we probably wouldn’t be the best roommates. I’d be great in a home with older kids due to my size. One thing you should know about me is that I'm food motivated. If you've got a tasty treat for me, I'll do just about anything you ask and I will drool to prove it. And if someone comes to the door, I'll be sure to let you know. I'm a great guard dog and always on alert. I LOVE squeaky toys and tug of war. I’m also very fond of BONES and frozen tasty treats. I’ve been in foster care for almost a year! But, my foster mom and trainer work hard on teaching me new skills and giving me structure and boundaries. I walk with a loose leash, I am muzzle trained, I know multiple commands and will work for food. I don’t mean to brag but I am extremely smart and learn very quickly! I need mental stimulation and a good amount of space for my zoomies. I even have my own social media @CadeTheBulldog ! Check out all my awesome adventures! All I really want is a caring and patient family who will love me for who I am and take me on all sorts of adventures, even better if you have previous American Bulldog experience.
Jade
Hey, my name is Jade! I was used as an outdoor guard dog for the first few years of my life until being dumped at a shelter by the only family I’ve ever known. I languished away at that shelter for a year before Rebirth Rescue was notified about me. They quickly came to my rescue and have been giving me the best care and training. I waited until the year after that for someone to notice me while I bounced around temporary fosters and training programs. Then, Rebirth Rescue had to close their doors due to financial hardship and now I’ve been welcomed into Samson’s Squad! I am about 4 years old, spayed, and up to date on all my shots. I am even kennel trained and house broken! I love wearing my sweaters and jammies, and I sleep about 90% of the day! My favorite thing is to do is splat out on the floor and snooze on all the comfy things! For fun I enjoy the playing with the water hose or taking a dip in the pool. I am obsessed with peanut butter treats, but please due to my allergies I'm a pescatarian. l love everyone I meet and smother them with kisses, but I do prefer to be the only animal in the house due to my previous traumatic life. I am looking for a calm, strong leader who will continue my training because I have 6 months under my belt, and I want to continue to grow. I am muzzle trained (and I look so cute!), e-collar conditioned and I loose leash walk like a champ. I know place, stay, wait, leave it and more! I look to my leader for continued instructions. I am the bestest girl, and I am looking for my happy ending. Please say you’ll take me home to be your house hippo.
Gus
Meet Gus, a 2 year old 60 lb Lab mix who was rescued with his brother from a barn in Barstow on Christmas Eve '22. They were found along with several other dogs who had been abused and neglected. Gus particularly had deep cuts and scars all over his sweet face. And yet, these boys wanted so badly to trust those rescuing them. We originally wanted to keep the brothers together, but it was proving to be more detrimental than helpful for them. Gus' brother was quickly adopted, and when they separated that was tough on Gus. His foster didn't have the time and patience to help him through it with at home training. So he went to board and train to work on his fears and separation anxiety. Gus has come such a long way in his journey. He's been working very hard with his trainer and has overcome his fear of the crate. He loves walks and hikes and is very food motivated. Peanut butter is this guys favorite treat. He now warms up to people in under 5 minutes and is asking for belly rubs.He even graduated his 6 week training program, but still has not had a foster or adopter step up for him, so he will be stuck in boarding indefinitely until that happens. Gus needs an experienced adopter who's willing to continue helping him gain his confidence, and continue his training. He would do best on his own, but does do well with other calm dogs. No huskys or large energetic dogs, and while he has worked hard on his impulse control on chasing small animals, no cats. Please help Gus get out of boarding and apply to foster or adopt him today!
Cocoa
This sweet boy is almost 6 years old and has been looking for a home for over a 2 years! He is a 62 lb sharpei, born of an accidental litter and then passed from home to home until he was sold to a very scary illegal puppymill, meat market/ “shelter” in South Korea. He was then rescued and waited for two years with no luck in finding a home 😭 Thats where we came in! Cocoas rescue in South Korea asked for help getting him over here, due to him being a short muzzle breed it is way more difficult and expensive to fly him over. We fundraised (his ticket alone was over $3,000) and in less than a month we were able to get him here!! Cocoa has been adjusting great to LA and has already been a hit at adoption events! He learned that he loves meeting new people, because they useually come with treats, his favorite! He is a very sweet and mellow boy who is eager to learn! He mastered sit and paw his first week with his foster! He prefers calm dogs and loves to play fetch. Please apply to adopt Cocoa today! Murphy
Meet Murphy the Meatball! He is a senior Pittie who is approximately 7 years old and a whopping 81 lbs. His story is a sad one, but we are turning that around now! This poor guy has been abandoned multiple times and left outside to fend for himself. First abandoned at a car wash and then taken in by someone else just to be chained up outside 24/7 in all kinds of weather. His new "owner" decided he wanted nothing to do with him and considered euthanasia, but instead decided to put him to the streets. He was out in the pouring rain, and being harassed and beaten by homeless people on the street. Thankfully a good samaritan neighbor came to his aid, bringing him out of the rain and keeping him away from other outside dangers in her bathroom, the only available space she had away from her own animals. She reached out to get him help and that's where Samsons squad came in. Less than 24 hours later, he was safe with us. Even though he arrived covered in tar, cigarette burns, and scars he met us with a smile, a wiggle, and so many thank you kisses. We immediately took this gentle giant to the vet, where he was the bestest boy! Although his ears were badly infected, he allowed the technicians to clean and treat him with no fuss, and asking for booty scratches the whole time! He has a clean bill of health otherwise and is just so happy to be off the streets. While waiting for his foster mom to pick him up, all he wanted to do was be loved on and get belly rubs. Now that he is home with his foster mom and settling in, he just loves to lounge around on his comfy couch and gaze out the window at the birds. He is a very polite and even a house trained boy who would love to spend the rest of his days napping and going for walks, where he will undoubtedly make friends on any path he chooses. Despite his size he is even gentle with all people, even little kids! Murphy would likely do best in a home as an only pet. A home where he can just be loved on and lounge around with his human. Like to snuggle and sleep in? Murphy is your guy! This boy loves to eat and sleep, with an occasional romp around the house or game of tug before resuming his nap time. Apply to take this wonderful meatball home today!
Shorty
Last summer the shelter we work with in South Korea saved 80 dogs from the meat market! Shorty was one of the babies born from a rescued pregnant mama! Unfortunately 2 of his siblings died of parvo, but this little legged boy is going strong! He is about 10 months old, vaccinated and neutered and ready to board his freedom flight!! He plays well with other dogs and he doesn't let his short little legs slow him down. We have so many tickets in Jan and Feb, but Shorty needs a committed foster or adopter to board! Apply to bring Shorty home today!
Bora
Bora is a 3 year old 30ish lb Jindo/lab mix who has been living outdoors in South Korea all of her life. To save her from being sold to the meat market our team has been working together to keep her safe, and she is being kept with a foster in south korea. However she still lives in a kennel outside and it's very cold! One of her kennelmates has been adopted already in LA and the third girl died of negligence after her heartworm treatment. So we are very urgently trying to find a safe place to move Bora to. She is very sweet with people and other dogs, however due to some food guarding we would prefer her to go to a foster/furever home where she can be the only pet until properly assessed. She finished treatment for heartworms and will be ready to board her freedom flight in February, but needs a safe place to land! Could that be you?
Dolce
Meet Dolce from her litter the "Designer dogs"! She is the most timid of the bunch, and the last sibling to board her freedom flight! All of her siblings found loving foster or furever homes and she is still waiting. She just needs a loving family to show her life doesnt have to always be scary! And check out those ears, can you even handle the cuteness? This beautiful jindo mix pup is safe now, in a shelter in South Korea where she has been since she was rescued. It has NOT been easy for them! 11 of them were crammed into a tiny crate being sold at the meat market! 11 turned to 7 as they battled parvo after our team rescued them. Now sadly 7 has become 5 as 2 more as the result of more health complications that could have been avoided if they were never in that horrible place. We don't know who their parents are, so we cant know for sure how big they will get but we estimate medium size. Dolce is about 11 months old now and is fully vaccinated as well as spayed/neutered and microchipped. Her first birhtday is June 5, can we find her a family by then?? Apply to foster or adopt Dolce and change her life furever!
